Suzuki updates on way to Frankfurt - and SA
SX4 MINI-SUV GETS BIT OF A FACE LIFT
August 24, 2009
Suzuki will continue to focus on its small-car expertise at the Frankfurt auto show in September and showcase its latest range of low-emission models.
Among them will be the one-litre Alto (just launched in South Africa) and Splash and the 1.3 DDiS Splash and Swift models.
Also on display will be the 2010 SX4 (to overtake the current model on sale in South Africa); Suzuki calls it "a clever combination of SUV dynamics and car elegance". The new SX4 has a styling package for greater aerodynamics and sporting appearance
The "minor change" model also features a new front bumper assembly, grille and front and rear scrape plates to help handle the rigours of outdoor life.
Updates to the interior include a redesigned instrument cluster, a new panel for the aircon and various measures to further reduce what little noise and vibration there might already be.
Suzuki describes the SX4 as "a distinctive five-door hatchback that blends the characteristics of sporty compacts exemplified by the Swift with those of lightweight SUV's such as the Grand Vitara, to create an exciting small car alternative".
The resulting "sport crossover", the automaker adds, combines responsive driving dynamics, 4x4 capability and high levels of practicality and styling
The 2010 model SX4 with its 1.6-litre petrol engine will receive some minor modifications including variable valve timing and a modified cylinder-head "resulting in improved efficiency, fuel consumption and about 10 percent lower emissions".
More information will be available closer to its launch in 2010.
The "minor change" SX4 will be available in Europe with an all-new two-litre DDiS engine for the all-wheel drive version that claims 18 percent less emissions – from 174g/km to 143g/km - and negligible particulate emissions of only 0.003g/km.
This model will be introduced later in 2010.
Also on show will be examples from the company's wides range of motorcycles, marine outboards and ATV's.
Suzuki is celebrating its centenary through 2009 and recently passed the 40-million mark for global car sales.
