Honda has provided more details of its new-look CR-V, due in South Africa in early 2010 with a new, more powerful 2.2-litre turbodiesel – now available with an auto transmission – and a more luxurious interior.

The new i-DTEC engine, first seen in the new Honda Accord, uses the latest injection technology, more efficient exhaust gas recirculation and a diesel particulate filter to create a diesel engine that's quieter and smoother.

It delivers a claimed 110kW at 4000rpm (up 7kW on the previous version) and 10Nm more torque (350Nm at 2000rpm)
The manual version will crack 0-100 in 9.6sec
.

It will be available with either a six-speed manual gearbox or a five-speed automatic transmission.

Honda says the manual version will crack 0-100 in 9.6sec with a190km/h top speed, while the auto makes 0-100 in 10.6sec and reaches 185km/h. Average fuel consumption is quoted at 6.5 litres/100km for the manual 7.4 litres/100km for the auto.

The two-litre petrol engine is unchanged from the previous model, kicking out the same power as the diesel but at a buzzier 6200rpm, with 192Nm on tap at 4200rpm. 0-100 sprint times are 10.2sec (manual) and 12.2sec (auto), top speeds 188 and 176km/h respectively and average fuel consumption 8.3 litres/100km for the manual and 8.5 litres/100km for the auto.

Improved sound insulation around the engine and upgraded plastic and fabric finishes make the cabin a more relaxed way to travel way, as does a new, more intuitive audio console layout.

Full SA specifications and prices and will be announced at the time of launch.
