Boy, 10, killed by Dakar rally car

Tambacounda, Senegal - A 10-year-old boy died on Friday after being hit by a car taking part in the Dakar rally stage between Labe, Guinea and here.

The accident happend six kilometres from the Guinean village of Kourahoye at the 25km point of the 567km run towards eastern Senegal.

The boy, who was named as Boubacar Diallo, had come with parents to watch the rally pass and was hit by a rally vehicle as he tried to cross the road.

"Unfortunately the boy died while being taken by helicoper to Labe," organisers added.

Diallo was the second fatal casualty of this year's Dakar. Australian motorcyclist Andy Caldecott was died in a high-speed fall on Monday. - Sapa-AFP
